Description
Some folks with call this Gem Silica, but it is not. It has too many inclusions in it, but it is as hard as any agate out there and has a super blue color. This is an unknown material Ive only seen a few pieces ever on the market. It has a red moss structure as a bottom to a bright blue silica top. Though this cabochon has a noticeable hairline fracture, it is very nice and polished on both side. If it doesn’t sell when I do a new batch of similar material, I will either recut it or heal the fracture. But then the price will go up.
Visit my Sold cabochon Gallery to see past opals I have cut. You will find other examples of materials, shapes, sizes, colors, and in general see my work there. Some stones date back over 15 years in there. I don’t show everything I cut, just the ones I really liked over the years. Please let me know if you have any questions about those materials.
Its also important to visit your local rockclub if you have one near by. Its a great place to start if you are new to gems and minerals. Thank you.
